Galiano Island – A Bit of a Getaway

*There is a yarn shop on Galiano, a part of the post office! I was so “chuffed” as the English say, when I wandered in to see what the little store held. A bit of sock yarn, some lovely local hand spun, a pretty reasonable selection of souvenir yarn and fibre in a small space and best of all a terrific woman behind the Canada Post desk spinning merino/silk on her lendrum. One of my people! We happily talked a bit in the way that fibre types do and she extended the spinner’s handshake. (I got to feel the fibre she was working on. Knitters handshake, you fondle the yarn or the knitted fabric. Really, one has to ask what the handshake is??)  Finished knitted objects to follow. In a few days…

Thanks for sharing your lovely photographs of Galiano Island, and your story of our “Twirly Tree” shop and post office, which we on the island all very much enjoy1

It’s great to know that our little shop is appreciated by the fibre fans out there. Drop by anytime you’re on Galiano for a chat about our favourite topics, fibre, yarn spinning, knitting and weaving. I’ll show you what I’m doing and you can bring something along to show me.. I’m in the store/post office Thurs., Fri., and Sat.
